Why Antidadbod? – “An Opinion Piece”
Why
Antidadbod? – “An Opinion Piece”
I want to start this by
saying in no way am I a male feminist but gentlemen, we’ve been SLIPPING. There
is a huge double standard going on that nobody seems to talk about and it’s
giving us as men a free pass to be unhealthy, fat and very lazy. Here is what I
am talking about. How many times have you heard comments about how a woman has
put on weight albeit the circumstances (hormonal, emotional or oh I don’t know
having a BABY). People will make comments how they just can’t seem to shake
that baby weight, or that there must be something going on.
Exhibit
B, the male who was always a skinny teenager who slowly but surely over the
years has kept that skinny lower frame but has developed this apple of a
midsection and a brimming “a” to “b” cup of breasts. This is ok because we have
the “DADBOD”. There is no “MOMBOD” because they are expected to snap right back
into shape but we get the “DADBOD” crutch. Pardon my French but this is a crock
of shit. There was time where being a quote on quote “man” meant being active
and testosterone fueled and yeah get hammered from time to time but there was
pride in being a “MAN”. Now (and I know this isn’t everybody) we can just wake
up rush out of the house, eat like shit, work sitting on our asses, come home,
eat more shit, watch TV, drink a few beers, pass out and REPEAT. But this is ok
because “women like to have extra cushion to cuddle with.” Have you ever heard
the inverse said? No, I don’t think so.
I
know this is a generalization and it’s not OK to “fat-shame” in this new PC
culture we have today, but my point is not to try to make people more
aesthetically pleasing here. My point is that we are becoming a culture of
unhealthy adult males who are setting a very poor example for our kids. Type 2
Diabetes is completely out of control and we are even starting to see cases of
it in young children. They don’t “have to eat the cake” at the party if they do
not want it. We do not need to continually use sugar and garbage food as
rewards. I think it is time for us to stop leaning on this lackadaisical “Dadbod”
culture and set an example for our kids. It’s ok to make them work for things,
and it is OK for us to work for things also. There is no quick fix for anything
and as it was said by Tim Kennedy, former UFC fighter and USA Army Green Beret,
“Everything you want is in the far side of hard work.” Life is not meant to be
easy. Our parent’s generation did not break their backs to make our lives
easier so we should be able to sit on our butts and chill.
Get
up, get moving and start to take some control of your life for your sake and for
your children’s sake. You will feel better, look better and sleep better. All
it takes is that first step up off the couch and outside to walk. Walk to the
stop sign and come home. The next day walk to the next stop sign and back. Let’s
rebuild ourselves together now! The longer we wait the harder it is.
